Bollywood actor Govinda added a touch of glamour to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena on Thursday, infusing excitement into the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra. It is anticipated that Govinda will contest from Mumbai North West, marking his return to politics after a hiatus.
In 2004, Govinda contested the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket, earning acclaim as a giant-slayer for defeating BJP’s Ram Naik. However, he later resigned from the party and withdrew from politics altogether.
“I am joining Shiv Sena, and it’s a blessing from God. I never thought I would re-enter politics,” stated Govinda as he was formally welcomed into the party by Eknath Shinde. Reflecting on Mumbai under Eknath Shinde’s leadership, Govinda remarked that the city appears cleaner and improved. Additionally, Govinda mentioned that his parents had a positive relationship with Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.
