The Election Commission has set the budget for miscellaneous expenses in the Lok Sabha elections. The commission diligently oversees the candidates’ spending. Earlier, the Commission had fixed candidate expenditure at Rs 70 lakh for the elections. However, for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Commission has raised the expenditure limit to Rs 95 lakh, an increase of Rs 25 lakh. Candidates are now required to ensure that their election expenses adhere to the newly permitted limits.
Candidates are required to campaign extensively throughout their district, necessitating the mobilization of a large workforce. The candidate is responsible for covering entire cost for providing breakfast, beverages, and meals for this considerable number of workers. Consequently, huge amounts of money are spent on candidates
