Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Aged 17 or above? Here’s how you can register to get a new Voter ID card

In a couple of weeks, India will begin voting in the 18th Lok Sabha Elections, with polling to take place in a phased manner between April 19 and June 4. The voting list for these elections has already been compiled, and the registration process for new Voter ID cards has also been closed.

However, as soon as the elections end, the registration process will restart. This time around, individuals aged 17 and above can apply in advance for Voter ID registration. Earlier, only those who had turned 18 by January 1 were the only ones allowed to apply

Now, individuals turning 18 on April 1, July 1, or October 1 in 2024 will be eligible to register as voters and receive an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).

Here’s how you can do it online:

1. Apply through the ECI (Election Commission of India) app, available on both the Play Store and App Store.
2. Alternatively, visit voterportal.eci.gov.in and fill out Form 6, along with submitting the necessary documents and a passport-sized photo.
3. ‘Form 6’ can be found under the ‘New Registrations for General Elections’ segment on the portal.
4. Track the application status using the reference number.

 Apply for Voter ID Card Offline:

1. Visit the Booth Level Office (BLO) in your locality, fill out Form 6, and submit the necessary documents.
2. It is important to note that the required documents for the registration process remain the same, whether you apply online or offline. These documents include a passport-sized photo, identity proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth.
3. Additionally, registering voters can call the ‘Voter Helpline’ at 1950 for assistance throughout the process.
