Hospital team express gratitude towards Rewatkar family
Satyashil Rewatkar’s body was donated to Datta Meghe Medical College and Shalinitai Hospital and Research Cnetre.
Rewatkar, who passed away on Wednesday had expressed his wishes to donate organs and body. His family members respected his wishes and donated the body.
Dr Rajasi Sengupta said that the Rewatkar’s organs could not be utilised as he was suffering from kidney infection, which also affected other body organs. Dr Sengupta also said that even if a person has p-ledged to donate organs or body, consent of the family members is important even after the person’s death.
Satyashil Rewatkar was being treated in a different hospital for health problems, which led to sepsis (a serious condition in which body responds improperly to an infection). In such condition donating the person’s organs may cause infection to the recipient of the donated organ.
Rewatkar family wanted to respect Satyashil’s wishes to donate body organs, but had to donate body. Donation of organs was medically not possible.
The Megha Medical College and hospital and Research Centre expressed gratitude towards Rewatkar family. Neha Ghate, a final MBBS student and an active member of the college’s organisation LIFEGIFT Organ Donation Programme Committee expedited the donation process. Satyashil Rewatkar’s son Swapnil approached Dr Rajasi Sengupta for technical guidance in completing the donation programme.
Sushil Meshram, a professor in Marathi and a social worker offered timely support and guidance to the Rewatkar family.
Dr Anu[p Marar, CEO of MGI and Director of Meghe Hospital and Research Centre acknowledged the support of Dr Ujwal Gajbe, Dean DMMC, Dr Brij Raj Singh, Vice-Dean and Dr Vasant Gawande, CMS, SMHRC for the expert services rendered for completing the procedure. Dr Lalitbushan Waghmare, VC of DMIHER expressed gratitude to Rewatkar family for their selfless act.
