Nine-year-old Kudan Shahu tragically succumbed to electrocution after coming into contact with an iron pole installed in an open area to secure dangling live electric wires in Vijay Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station, on Tuesday morning. According to authorities, Kundan, a third-grade student, had come in contact with the pole while playing. Police further disclosed that the pole had been erected six years ago.
According to police reports, Kundan’s father, Vijay, works as a laborer, while his mother is employed in a factory. Kundan has a sister who is a fifth-grade student. A temporary structure, known as a pandal, had been set up in front of Kundan’s house, where the iron pole is located. Tragedy struck on Tuesday morning around 8 am when Kundan was electrocuted while playing and touching the pole. He was quickly taken to Mayo Hospital, where he was declared dead. The Kalamna police conducted an on-site investigation and registered the incident as accidental. According to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the insulation of a live wire wrapped around the pole may have been damaged during the erection of the pandal.
