The Meta is not responsible for the illegal posts published by the account holders on Facebook and Instagram. Meta explaining its stand before the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court regarding the sale of prohibited nylon manja.
A Public Interest Litigation is pending in the High Court against the sale of banned nylon manja. Meanwhile, the court had sought an explanation from the Meta considering the fact that nylon manja is being sold online through Facebook and Instagram.
The Meta has filed an affidavit and presented its case. Meta provides Facebook and Instagram services in India, both of which have millions of Indian accounts and they post billions of messages, photos, videos, etc. on Facebook and Instagram every day.
Meta Company acts as an intermediary for both these services. According to the Information Technology Act and Supreme Court’s judgment in the Shreya Singhal case, Meta Company is not responsible for the information disclosed by the account holders. As a result, no action can be taken against Meta Company due to such matters, the company said.
