The runway at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport at Nagpur was in dark on Friday evening. At least for two hours neither landing nor take off could take place at the airport.
Flight operations were restored around 10 pm on Friday. The passengers at the airport faced a difficult time and were confused over the fiasco. Several incoming and outgoing flights were delayed due to technical problems that resulted in a disruption in power supply.
According to the information, the Runway End Identifier Lights were not functioning due to technical problems in the monitoring system. The system consists of flashlights on both sides of the runway.
Some passengers alleged that confusion prevailed among them, as proper information was not provided by the authorities concerned.
The lights were installed by MIHAN India Limited and the maintenance is carried out by a private contractor.
