In a groundbreaking initiative towards sustainability and energy efficiency, Central Railway Nagpur Division announces the successful establishment of solar plants at 16 remote and small railway stations within the division during the fiscal year 2023-24.
Under the visionary leadership of Divisional Railway Manager, Mr. Manish Agarwal, and with the dedicated efforts of Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (General), Mr. Mahesh Kumar, and Assistant Divisional Electrical Engineer (SA), Mr. Sanjeev Mankar, the division has made significant strides in harnessing renewable energy sources to power its operations.
The solar plants installed across stations including Ghodadongri, Multai, Jaulkheda, Dharakhoh, Polapathar, Maramjhiri, Taku, Dodramoh, Barbatpur, Butibori, Chandur, and Dhamangaon boast a total capacity of 135 KW, contributing to the division’s overall solar power capacity of 1.465 MW. Notably, this achievement marks the highest solar power capacity attained by any division within Central Railway.
The impact of this initiative extends beyond electricity generation. With an annual production of 92,300 units of electricity, these solar plants have resulted in significant cost savings of approximately 7,29,000/- rupees, while also reducing carbon emissions by 60.5 tonnes annually.
Furthermore, the division’s commitment to sustainability continues with ongoing efforts to establish solar stations at an additional 31 remote and small stations, with a projected capacity of 330 KW. Once operational, these stations are estimated to generate 2,25,622 units of electricity annually, further solidifying the division’s position as a leader in green energy adoption within the railway sector.
