The district election authorities have seized 29 lakh cash in two separate operations in Nagpur district on Wednesday ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
Routine inspection of vehicles at checkpoints on MandhalKuhi road under the jurisdiction of Kuhi police station and Katol road under the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan police led to the seizures from two different vehicles.
Sources informed that the authorities had made check-posts at designated spots on various highways and roads connecting Nagpur city.
The police randomly inspect vehicles entering or going out of the city.
Election office squad stopped a car (MH40- BJ 1262) at Kuhi-Mandhal road, which falls in the Ramtek Lok Sabha constituency and conducted a search. During the inspection they recovered 26.60.741 cash from a bag kept in the vehicle. The cash was supposed to belong to one Kailash Tikamchand Govindani, a resident of Umred.
At the time of search operation the car driver identified as Mahendra Rathod and his associate Manoj Chavan were in the vehicle, informed the officials.
