The National Highway division of the Public Works Department (PWD) has opened the left lane from Panchsheel Square to Jhansi Rani Square, allowing motorists to travel directly between the two squares and save time. This development enables motorists to travel directly between the two squares, reducing travel time. The bridge construction is nearing completion, with only one lane accessible at present.
The other lane, from Jhansi Rani Square to Panchsheel Square, remains closed. The delay in opening this lane is due to slab casting on the British-era nullah.
As per the local media reports Superintendent engineer Prakash Thakre emphasized that premature lane opening could result in accidents due to heavy traffic.
Completion of slab casting and subsequent roadwork is expected to take 12 to 15 days. Assuring the bridge’s longevity for at least 50 years, Thakre addressed concerns regarding its durability.
Urgency for the bridge stems from a portion of the old bridge collapsing during flash floods on September 23, 2023. To expedite construction, the project was integrated into the ongoing Amravati Road flyover project. This strategic move aimed to streamline construction processes and minimize delays. The newly opened lane marks a significant milestone in enhancing traffic flow and connectivity along the designated route.
