A significant improvement is underway at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur, as a ‘skywalk’ connecting the Trauma Centre and Casualty Section nears completion. Funded by the Shinde-Fadnavis Government with Rs 4.93 crore, this initiative aims to streamline traffic and enhance convenience for patients and staff navigating between these crucial units.
This development is part of a broader plan supported by a substantial Rs 550 crore sanction from the government to upgrade GMCH. Additionally, the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) is set to receive a facelift, with Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis allocating over Rs 800 crore for both institutions.
IGGMCH has submitted a proposal for Rs 302 crore, while GMCH’s plans include constructing a Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) with Rs 8 crore allocated for construction and Rs 50 lakh for a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). GMCH has also addressed infrastructure issues, including clearing encroachments near a gate leading to Rajabaksha Temple.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Avinash Gawande highlighted the successful removal of encroachments and improved traffic flow. GMCH is also addressing accommodation needs, with ongoing construction of a spacious hostel for 400 girls at a cost of Rs 62.84 crore. Plans to increase paying wards from 20 to 80, catering to rising demand, are also underway, with a proposed allocation of Rs 45.60 crore.
These initiatives underscore a commitment to modernize healthcare infrastructure, enhance facilities, and improve accessibility for patients and medical staff alike. With continued support and investment, GMCH and IGGMCH aim to provide superior medical services and contribute to the well-being of the community by the next year.
