A recent investigation into a robbery has uncovered that two police officers extorted a gold chain from a engineering student. They threatened him when they saw him sitting with his girlfriend in a quiet spot along Outer Ring Road in Wathoda. The incident came to light when the student went to the police and lodged a complaint. Earlier, the case had been registered against fake cops. However, it has now come to light that two constables attached to Kalamna Police Station are the culprits.
The constables involved are Pankaj Yadav and Sandip Yadav, both working at Kalamna Police Station. The police say the person who reported the incident is a student at Symbiosis University College in East Nagpur. The officers noticed the young man and his girlfriend talking in a secluded spot across from a hotel on Outer Ring Road on April 13 at approximately 9 pm.
Pankaj and Sandip approached the couple on a motorcycle and confronted them. Initially, they introduced themselves as beat marshals from Kalamna.
The accused police arrived and asked for the names of the boy and girl. They then confronted the couple for a few minutes, threatened to take legal action against them for engaging in obscene activities in a secluded area. Fearing police intervention, the couple became frightened, with the girl breaking down in tears in front of the officers. Additionally, one of the constables physically assaulted the young man.
After a few minutes of drama, the constables demanded Rs one lakh from the youth to refrain from initiating action against them. But since he didn’t have that much cash with him, they asked him to give his gold chain, which weighed 30 grams and was worth over Rs. 2.10 lakh. After taking the chain, the con- stables vanished from the spot. The youth returned to his hostel and was in a state of shock for a few days. He later recounted the incident to his friends and parents, who advised him to file a complaint with the police.
The student filed a complaint with Wathoda Police Station, prompting senior police officers to launch an investigation into the matter. Following a careful analysis of CCTV footage, the police successfully identified the constables involved in the incident. Consequently, Wathoda Police registered a case against the constables under Sections 392, 170, and 134 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to sources, the accused policemen have not been arrested yet. Both constables were typically on general duties and allegedly carried out such activities during the night. The complainant told the police that the accused cops had warned him of serious consequences if he reported the incident to anyone.
