From this year onward, the normalization of scores for the Common University Entrance Test-UG and the National Eligibility Test is being eliminated, as announced by UGC chief Jagadesh Kumar.
“No normalisation of scores will be required this year since both exams will be conducted in a single shift for a subject,” said Kumar.
Normalization is a procedure used to adjust a student’s score so that it can be compared with the score of another. This is necessary when an exam in the same subject is conducted in multiple sessions, each with a different paper. Students have been raising concerns about this process.
Earlier, we had to conduct the test for the same paper over two or three days to accommodate students’ preferences for their first-choice center as much as possible. However, this year, by adopting to the OMR mode, we will have numerous centers available at schools and colleges, allowing us to conduct the test nationwide on the same day.
- The CUET-UG will be conducted in pen-and-paper mode for 15 subjects and online mode for 48 subjects from May 15-24 this year.
- Likewise, the UGC-NET, previously conducted in Computer Based Test mode, will now take place in pen-and-paper mode on June 16.
