The traffic police informed the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court that they had charged 264 people last week for wrong-side driving violations.
During the proceedings of a public interest litigation, a division bench comprising Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri instructed both the traffic police and petitioner Adv. Sandeep Badana to file information regarding the measures taken against traffic law violators.
The petitioner asserted that the absence of speed breakers on the newly constructed outer ring roads in Dabha, Gorewada, and Katol Naka square led to an increase in accidents.
The court ordered the authorities to install speed breakers at the locations identified by the petitioner. Accordingly, the traffic police installed speed breakers at the designated squares. However, during subsequent hearings, the petitioner raised concerns about the rise in accidents in the city due to vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road. Despite this, the traffic police were found to have not taken any action against the violators of traffic rules.
