Two police constables posted at Kalamna police station have been identified as the perpetrators behind the snatching of a three-tola gold chain valued at Rs1.80 lakh. The incident occurred on April 13, when a 19-year-old engineering student was chatting with a friend inside a car near the Outer Ring Road on the Jabalpur-Nagpur highway. In response to the investigation, CP Ravinder Kumar Singal suspended the two officers on Sunday.
It has been reported that constables Sandeep Yadav and Pankaj Yadav from Kalamna police station were patrolling under the jurisdiction of Wathoda police station when they targeted a couple. Threatening to charge the young couple under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, Pankaj and Sandeep initially demanded money from the victims.
Unable to pay the demanded amount, the officers forcibly took the gold chain from the young couple and departed. Initially concealing the incident from their family, the shocked victims eventually disclosed that the police had forcefully seized the gold chain. They later approached Wathoda police station to file a complaint against the two constables. Initially, the police registered offenses against unknown individuals, but later confirmed Pankaj and Sandeep’s involvement using cellphone tower location data. The victims also identified Pankaj and Sandeep from images on social media.
