Presently raw materials imported from China, Taiwan
Under an ambitious mission, the Department of Physics of Nagpur University conducted a workshop for students in developing raw materials and also in manufacturing LED bulbs for domestic use and street lights. The workshop was planned as the raw material for LED bulbs is imported by India. The technology is not very difficult and can be adopted by the students easily. The use of LED saves electricity by up to 90 percent.
Upendra Wathodkar of Wathodkar Industries, the Head of the Department Dr Om Prakash Chimankar, Dr Sanjay Dhoble of Luminiscience Laboratory were the resource persons.
Wathodkar gave information about the working of ELD lights used domestically and on streets and the importance of its use. The technology being simple and LED bulbs can be made using locally available material, Wathodkar motivated the participants to undertake preparing raw materials and also manufacture LEWD bulbs.
Presently the material is imported from China and Taiwan. Wathodkar said that entrepreneurs can prepare materials and bulbs in our own country.
Dr Chimankar inaugurated the training programme and motivated students to start their units. He welcomed Wathodkar.
A prominent researcher of international repute Dr Dhoble guided the participants in making bulbs emitting red, blue, green lights.
