After 45 years of existence ‘Balodyan’ once a beloved destination for Nagpur’s residents, but over time, it lost its appeal due to poor maintenance. Balodyan at Seminary Hills in Nagpur is getting a big makeover led by the Forest Department. This initiative aims not only to restore the garden to its former glory but also to transform it into one of the region’s premier tourist destinations.
Once a beloved spot for tourists and locals alike, Balodyan had gradually lost its allure due to years of neglect. As per the local media reports, Dr. Bharat Singh Hada, Deputy Conservator of Nagpur Forest, expressed the department’s commitment to revive Balodyan’s charm during a media briefing.
“We are renovating the garden to create a place of enjoyment for kids and tourists visiting the city,” We’ve invested around Rs 4 crore for the renovation, including upgrading the ‘Vanbala’ station. The work is finished, and we will open the garden with a fresh look on May 10,” stated Dr. Hada.
The garden, nestled amidst rich flora and fauna, had long awaited proper care. The renovation promises to breathe new life into Balodyan, offering a range of entertainment options for visitors spanning all age groups.
The centerpiece of the revamped garden will be the ‘Vanbala toy train’, which received a makeover last year. Operating every day except Mondays, visitors can enjoy joy rides from 10 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm, with ticket prices at Rs 20 for children and Rs 50 for adults.
The Forest Department has added new adventure rides to draw children, and to appeal to everyone, they’re setting up food and souvenir stalls inside. Dr. Hada mentioned that visitors can also enjoy the nature trail and relax in the lawn surrounded by old trees. Additionally, all old rides have been replaced with new ones, and there’s a new boundary wall, entrance gate, and walking trail. Dr. Hada expressed optimism about the garden’s popularity increasing after reopening, and they plan to promote Balodyan on the forest department’s eco-tourism website.
