Guests at a marriage ceremony in Amravati had a different experience. The ceremony was held on April 22, which is also the World Earth Day.
It was a marriage of Viraj Mohite and Saloni Gomekar. Nitin is the son of Prof Ambadas Mohite and Jyoti Mohite. Ambadas Motite is a retired professor in social work and founder and President of the Maharashtra Association of Social Work Educators (MASWE) and Jyoti is a social activist associated with Nehru Yuva Kendra and other social organisations.
The Mohite family decided to distribute about 100 varieties of medicinal plants to the guests as a return gift. The concern for the environment was suitably expressed on the World Earth Day. The message was clear and highly appreciated by the guests.
Ambadas Mohite is also a political leader and had contested elections in Nagpur on a Congress ticket. Prominent among those who attended the ceremony included former Chief Justice of India Sharad Bobde; National General Secretary of Indian National Congress Mukul; Wasnik, Maharashtra Backward Class Commission Chairman Justice Sunil Shukre, ex-VEO of MHADA Arun Dongre, senior police officers, legislators, former ministers, and others.
Ambadas and Jyoti Mohite had also distributed saplings during the marriage of his elder son. This time they distributed medicinal plants. The idea may motivate others to follow.
