In a recent announcement, HCLTech, unveiled to sustain a robust hiring of more than 10,000 fresh graduates during the fiscal year 2023-24. This declaration was made during the fourth-quarter earnings call for the fiscal year 2023-24.
HCLTech disclosed the addition of 3,096 new freshers to its workforce. Over the course of the entire fiscal year, HCLTech successfully onboarded 12,141 freshers, thereby augmenting its total headcount to 227,481 employees by the conclusion of the fourth quarter.
The attrition rate for the fourth quarter saw a slight decrease, standing at 12.4 per cent compared to the previous quarter’s 12.8 per cent.
Ramachandran Sundararajan, Chief People Officer of HCLTech, stated, “In FY24, we commenced with a goal of recruiting approximately 15,000 freshers… that was the initial plan for the year, and we concluded by incorporating over 12,000. Due to the volatility experienced throughout the year, we had to recalibrate our fresher hiring.”
“For the upcoming year, we expect a hiring strategy in line with previous years, likely aiming for over 10,000 freshers as additions for FY25. This reaffirms our commitment to both campus and fresher hiring programs.”, he added.
Sundararajan stressed that freshers’ recruitment will be evenly distributed each quarter based on demand. Regarding contract hiring, the company prioritizes internal resources before considering external contracts, ensuring internal fulfillment before resorting to external arrangements.
“Contract hiring is tactical, driven by internal demand. Only when internal resources fall short do we resort to contract hiring,” said Sundararajan. He noted a decreased need for contractual fulfillment in FY24.
“For FY25, we’ll focus on internal fulfillment, investing in skilling efforts to meet demand. Contract staffing will remain tactical, supporting internal needs,” he added.
