With passenger convenience in mind, the limitation on the outer limit geo-fencing distance for purchasing journey and platform tickets via the unreserved ticket (UTS) mobile app has been lifted immediately. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Saurabh Kataria, announced that rail travelers can now conveniently book unreserved tickets and platform tickets from any station, all from the comfort of their homes.
The inner boundary of geo-fencing, confined to the station premises, will remain unchanged, allowing ticket booking from outside this boundary. Previously, there existed a restriction on the outer boundary of geo-fencing, limiting it to a distance of 50 km. This allowed passengers to book unreserved/platform tickets from a station within a 50 km radius of their mobile location. However, this restriction has now been lifted. Indian Railways is simplifying the process by facilitating UTS ticket booking through smartphones with internet connectivity. This enhancement enables railway passengers to bypass lengthy queues for unreserved tickets and easily book them from their mobile devices.
The UTS mobile app, known for its user-friendly interface and easy navigation, has been steadily gaining popularity among rail users, particularly frequent local train travelers and those needing to book unreserved tickets. With the elimination of the outer limit geo-fencing restriction, Indian Railways has further enhanced passenger convenience and embraced digitalization. This initiative is anticipated to incentivize more individuals to utilize the UTS mobile app for ticket bookings, alleviating the inconvenience of enduring long queues at ticket counters.
