Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari on Tuesday, instructed officials to ease city traffic congestion by June-end. A budget of 197.63 crore has been set aside to modernize Nagpur’s traffic signals. Plans include creating on-street parking on 75 roads, with a focus on completing facilities on 15 road within 15 days. Strategic measures were also discussed during the meet.
In response to the high court’s orders, Bidari is leading a committee to suggest traffic solutions for Nagpur and its surroundings. Stressing the need to address congestion promptly, the commissioner aims to complete traffic-smoothing projects by June’s end.
According to local media, the NMC and traffic police surveyed 60 potential locations before agreeing on 49 of them. With the monsoon approaching, the NMC prioritizes road repairs to mitigate waterlogging, aligning efforts with traffic management for a smoother season ahead.
A total of 634 potholes, spanning 42,068 square meters, have been repaired, with ongoing efforts to trim tree branches obstructing roads and power lines. To bolster road safety, 23 accident-prone spots are earmarked for special attention, including the installation of speed bumps, zebra crossings, signage, and signal system upgrades.
Bidari emphasized prioritizing citizen welfare via urban planning and infrastructure. Officials pledged prompt implementation of proposed measures, aligning with the city’s vision for sustainable urban growth and improved quality of life.
