Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was stopped from voting as he had not carried his identity card while voting for a local body elections. He had to go back and bring the identity card to exercise the right.
Johnson was the Prime Minister from 1999 to 2022 and passed a law compelling the voters to carry identity cards while exercising the franchise. He himself, however, forgot to carry it on Thursday during voting in South Oxfordshire. The officers posted at the voting booth did not allow him to cast the vote for want of the identity card. He was sent back. He, however, completed the procedure later in the day in favour of the Conservative Party.
The British Election Commission said that many people could not vote for want of proper identity cards.
Such incidents may have coined the term ‘getting a taste of his own medicine’.
