The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire and Emergency Services department is urging building owners within the city, whose structures stand between 15 to 24 meters tall, to obtain final certification for their firefighting capabilities. An official notification from B P Chandankhede, Acting Chief Fire Officer, highlights that buildings constructed between December 30, 2020, and May 30, 2022, were approved by the competent authority without the necessary temporary or final clearance from the Fire Brigade.
Following Rule 2006 and its amended version in List 1, owners of buildings within the 15 to 24-meter height range must ensure they have adequate firefighting and life safety measures in place. Subsequently, builders must apply for final clearance from the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of the civic body.
The notification emphasizes that the Fire and Emergency Services department has initiated actions against buildings failing to meet the standards outlined in the rules. Previously categorized as special buildings under Integrated Development Control and Incentive Rules 2020 no. 1,3 (93), (xiv), structures within the height range of 15 to 24 meters are now classified as non-special under amended regulations. Consequently, they are required to obtain a final clearance certificate from the Fire Brigade. It has been noted that building plans sanctioned between December 30, 2020, and May 30, 2022, were approved without the necessary authorization from the Fire Brigade.
