In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, a 19-year-old girl, Nilima Shahu, ended her life by jumping from a flyover in Butibori, sustaining severe head injuries.
Nilima, preparing for her National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) for the second time, left her home in Mhada Colony, Butibori, around 1 a.m. She was captured on CCTV footage near a petrol pump, walking towards the flyover, where her sandals were later found.
Her family noticed her absence around 5 a.m., well before her scheduled exam, prompting them to contact friends and acquaintances. Concerned parties informed the Butibori police, who discovered Nilima’s body beneath the flyover.
Despite Nilima’s academic diligence, her family suspects last year’s unsuccessful NEET-UG attempt might have contributed to performance pressure. However, no suicide note was found, and Nilima left her phone at home. While the police consider examination stress a possible factor, no concrete evidence supports it as the sole motivator for Nilima’s decision.
Nilima’s untimely demise has shocked her family and the community, highlighting the need for mental health support among students facing academic pressures. The Butibori police urge anyone with relevant information to assist in the investigation.
