In the recently held election for Member of Parliament for Nagpur, many citizens found their names missing and many names were found on the list of the deceased persons; this not only reduced the voting percentage but also discouraged citizens from voting in future.
Taking this issue in public interest, a delegation of Vidarbha Taxpayers Association (VTA) led by its president Shrawankumar Malu met Dr. Vipin Itankar – District Collector, held discussion and submitted a memorandum. A copy of the memorandum is also dispatched to Rajiv Kumar – Chief Election Commissioner, Delhi.
Shrawankumar Malu said, it is highly recommended that a special camp is organised by the Administration soon so that such addition/deletion of names are carried out after following due procedure. As the last voting phase hasn’t passed too long ago, the citizens who faced such situations are bound to approach administration on priority. Rather, all NGOs and Associations of the city should also request their members to take advantage of this facility as and when announced by the Administration.
Tejinder Singh Renu, secretary of VTA said, another reason being that many citizens including eligible students are out of station and despite wanting to exercise their vote, they are unable due to lack of any such facility available. With the dedicated mobile and Aadhar linked facility available, online voting may please be introduced on topmost priority.
Dr. Itankar appreciated the idea and said that we will examine the situation and take appropriate steps, administration too wants citizens to vote in large numbers.
Also present in the delegation were Hemant Trivedi – Vice President, Pawan K. Chopra – Treasurer, Amarjit Singh Chawla and Rajesh Kanungo – Joint Secretaries.
