Election officers safe, EVMs damaged
A bus carrying election officials and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) caught fire in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh.
The election officials are safe and escaped without any injury. Some EVMs, however, that recorded voting and were being taken to the counting station, were damaged in the incident.
According to local media reports, Betul District Collector Narendra Suryavanshi told the media that the incident occurred near Gola village on Tuesday around 11 pm. Four out of six EVMs were damaged in the fire. The report has been forwarded to the State Election Commission.
A spark inside the electric panel of the bus is the probable cause of the fire. Repolling may be held on the polling booths related to the damaged EVMs.
