With approximately 650-700 public CCTV cameras throughout the city reported as non-operational, CP Ravinder Singal had to lead a review meeting with the relevant agencies on Tuesday. The city police heavily rely on the CCTV camera infrastructure for crime prevention, detection, and traffic management, stated the CP. Singal, who had initiated efforts to bolster the CCTV network, advocated for the installation of an additional 900 cameras at key locations.
The top cop mentioned that ongoing civic construction projects on the roads have disrupted many CCTV cameras in various locations, affecting cabling and connectivity. He has urged the concerned agencies to enhance their systems and expedite the restoration of non-functional cameras.
Singal acknowledged the pivotal role of CCTVs in crime detection and reduction, highlighting their potential to enhance policing strategies.
