In a commendable display of community spirit, citizens of Nagpur banded together to safeguard the city’s greenery by liberating trees from the suffocating grip of concrete and debris. Recently, a proactive group of residents initiated a de-choking campaign in the Bajaj Nagar area, targeting construction and demolition waste that had been carelessly dumped by contractors employed by the civic body for various projects.
Despite Nagpur’s aspirations to evolve into a smart city, the civic administration’s focus on rapid infrastructure development has led to neglect of the city’s green assets. Trees, lining the streets, bear the brunt of this neglect as they are often choked by construction debris, jeopardizing their health and vitality. Despite repeated appeals to the authorities, no action has been forthcoming.
In response to this apathy, a vigilant group of citizens took matters into their own hands, embarking on a mission to rescue neglected trees across the city. Armed with determination and shovels, they painstakingly cleared debris and garbage from around the trees, creating breathing space and allowing for water percolation during the rainy season. Concurrently, they undertook an awareness campaign, educating fellow citizens about the critical role of trees and the urgent need to de-choked them for the city’s well-being.
