The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has ordered to relocate the Vivekanand memorial Ambazari. High court suggested to NMC to find out an alternative place for it. The High court has also said that the High Power Committee constituted for the strengthening of Ambazari Lake.
It is known that on the night of 25 September 2023, there was heavy rain in the city. More than 117 mm of rain fell in Nagpur city in about a few hours. Due to this torrential rain, the Nag river was flooded. Due to which water entered the residential areas and commercial areas on its banks. There was a big loss due to flood water entering people’s homes. The goods kept in the shops, including the things used in daily life, were spoiled by drowning in the water. There was a big loss during this time. In the investigation, the main reason for the flood was found to be encroachment on the river. Along with this, the construction of concrete around the river was also a major reason.
A petition was filed in the High Court regarding the flood in the month related to the Nag river and the damage caused by it. In the last hearing, the court had severely reprimanded the Municipal Corporation regarding the Vivekananda Memorial. Not only this, the court had also asked who had given permission to build on the overflow point. Overflow point built in restricted area.
