Due to the rainfall on Thursday morning, 20,000 sacks of red chilli produced in the agricultural market yard at Kalmana got soaked. As a result, chilli growers have incurred losses worth lakhs of rupees.
In the month of December, the fear of crop damage due to heavy rainfall had been expressed. However, the fear has now subsided and the arrival of goods has begun vigorously. The chilli market at Kalmana starts only on Mondays during the week. It was bustling on that day. After the bustle, the goods are placed in the market. The demand for chilli coming to Kalmana is from both domestic and international markets. The supply of chilli from places like Mandle, Rajura, Chandrapur, Kagaznagar, Armori, Bhiwapur, Wani, Varora, Buldhana, Chikhli, Sironcha, Varud, Morshi, Tarsa, and Mauda has improved.
The arrival, which started from January, will continue until the end of May. During the week, the arrival of 30,000 to 35,000 sacks is ongoing. Due to the rainfall that occurred on Thursday morning, heavy losses have been incurred. The entire goods had been brought to the market for auctioning. Suddenly, the unexpected rainfall in the morning caused chaos among the sellers.
The entire goods, which were in such large quantities, could not be moved or covered to a safe place. As a result, approximately 20,000 sacks got soaked. Due to the chilli getting soaked, it will now need to be dried again. Additionally, the quality of the chilli has deteriorated automatically due to getting soaked, which will lead to further financial losses. There were about 20,000 sacks in the market, each containing at least 35 to 40 kilograms of chilli. The entire stock has been affected by the rain. If the rainy weather persists for the next few days, further losses in the chilli crop are expected.
