In a big move, Unit 2 of the Nagpur Crime Branch cracked down on an IPL betting group working from Karitk Nagar, near Mankapur Police Station, on Friday night. They seized items worth Rs 5.71 lakh and arrested four bookies involved.
The individuals involved are Farhan Ali Likayat Ali (28), from Gandhibagh; Shoeb Ali Shakib Ali Sayyed (38), from Jafar Nagar; Imran Ali Zahir Ali (42), from Satranjipura; and Irshad Rafiq Qureshi (36), from Dighori.
As per police sources, authorities received confidential information about certain individuals engaging in betting on the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans in the Mankapur vicinity. Following confirmation of the tip-off, a team from Crime Branch Unit 2, led by PI Shubhangi Deshmukh and including API Gajanan Chambhare, Police Constables Rajesh Tiwari, Mahendra Sadmake, Shailesh Jambhulkar, Deepak Chole, Police Naik Arjun Yadav, Dinesh Daware, Sandeep Changole, Kamlesh Ganer, and Police Amaldar Vivesk Shirpad, conducted a raid on the location. Subsequently, four individuals were found involved in gambling activities.
