Both sides of the recently built bridge over Nag River near Jhansi Rani Square have been opened finally for traffic. This development will provide relief to commuters facing increasing traffic congestion. However, the reopening of the road stretch was hindered by malfunctioning traffic signals at Panchsheel Square.
The State Public Works Department’s National Highway (NH) division was responsible for carrying out the bridge construction. On Friday, both directions of the road spanning from Jhansi Rani Square to Panchsheel Square were opened for vehicular traffic.
Following the bridge collapse during the flash floods on September 23 last year, the NH division of the PWD reconstructed the bridge. As a result, both sides of Wardha Road, from Jhansi Rani Square to Panchsheel Square, were closed to traffic. The project faced multiple deadline extensions, leading to a cost increase from Rs 6 crore to Rs 7.50 crore. Additionally, motorists endured traffic diversions for months due to the road closure.
