According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), there are apprehensions that more than 20 people might still be trapped beneath the debris. The incident prompted a swift response from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which reported that 67 individuals have been successfully rescued. Rescue operations are currently underway to extricate those who remain trapped.
The calamitous turn of events coincided with a sudden weather shift in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), characterized by intense showers, dust storms, and lightning. While the rain offered respite from scorching temperatures, it also led to various other challenges such as tree collapses, waterlogging, and traffic congestion across the metropolis.
In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Eknath Singh pledged decisive action against hoardings erected in Mumbai without proper licenses or permissions, emphasizing the need for stringent enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
