Voters from 14 villages in Jiwati taluka of Chandrapur district exercised their voting rights for the second time on Monday. They have their names in the list of Maharashtra’s Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency and also in the Adilabad constituency in Telangana.
These 14 disputed villages are on the Maharashtra-Telangana border. First, they voted during the first phase on April 19, and now in the fourth phase on Monday for the candidates from the Adilabad constituency.
Maharashtra and Telangana have been claiming their jurisdiction over these villages located in remote areas of Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district. The villages remained neglected because of the dispute. Various Maharashtra government schemes could not reach these villages. Telangana took advantage of the situation and issued ration cards, voter identity cards electric connections etc, and also opened schools for their children.
These 14 villages have 5,117 voters who can exercise the right in both Maharashtra and Telangana.
