Anant Ambani’s Vantara organization demonstrated compassion and acted swiftly by coordinating a remarkable rescue mission that spanned thousands of kilometers to assist an ailing elephant and her calf in Tripura’s Unakoti district.
The rescue operation, documented in an online video that has rapidly gained widespread attention, highlighted the dedication of Vantara’s team and the importance of collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation.
Upon receiving the distress call, Vantara swiftly organized a convoy of vehicles, including ambulances and feed trucks, along with a team of skilled personnel, to deliver essential care to the elephants, known as Pratima and her calf, Maniklal.
Despite the daunting distance of 3,500 kilometers from Jamnagar to Tripura, the convoy completed the journey in just 24 hours, showcasing remarkable efficiency and unwavering dedication to the cause.
The rescue operation unveiled the dire condition of Pratima, who exhibited extensive wounds, lacerations, and severe stiffness in her limbs.
Furthermore, she displayed signs of blindness in one eye, while her calf showed symptoms of malnutrition. Following this, Vantara’s dedicated team provided eterinary care to ensure the elephants received the essential treatment and rehabilitation they needed. However, the rescue also brought attention to a concerning aspect, as highlighted by PETA in a released statement.
Pratima and her calf were illegally held without an ownership certificate, violating wildlife protection laws. This underscores the critical necessity for stricter enforcement and oversight to protect vulnerable species.
The rescue and recovery of Pratima and Maniklal show how working together can help save wildlife. It reminds us how important it is to protect our natural world.
