In the wake of the engineer’s drowning at the NIT swimming pool in Nagpur, Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The case took a perplexing turn when it was revealed that the CCTV footage from the pool was missing for a significant period of 18 hours between 3 am and 9 pm on April 23. This revelation has fueled suspicions of intentional deletion to conceal the truth surrounding the engineer’s demise, prompting the top police official to initiate the probe.
Kunal Kishore Salpekar, a 37-year-old engineer residing in Abhyankar Nagar and employed in the marketing department of L&T Company, tragically drowned around 8:30 pm on April 23 while swimming at the NIT pool. The Bajaj Nagar Police registered a case of accidental death and commenced investigations.
However, during the investigation, authorities discovered the absence of crucial CCTV footage covering the time frame of the incident. Despite claims of a technical glitch by the swimming pool management, doubts persist regarding the validity of this explanation. Both the Cyber Cell and Forensic Laboratory are actively involved in determining whether the footage was deliberately tampered with or if technical issues were genuinely responsible.
Delayed hospital admission, absence of coach, complaints against negligent contractor, and demands for strict action escalate concerns in drowning incident investigation.
Deceased’s relatives urge Commissioner Singal for thorough investigation, demand accountability, preventive measures; forensic experts and police inquiries are ongoing.
