Once again, Nagpur residents find themselves confronted with the alarming presence of a leopard, this time in a residential area close to the Gorewada International Zoo. In the Zingabai Takli region of West Nagpur, the leopard have attacked and killed a calf on Wednesday night.
Around 10 pm in Sawant Society, a local youth observed the incident, witnessing the leopard’s actions directly. The sighting and subsequent attack on the calf spread panic among residents. Despite the community’s efforts to find the leopard, it successfully evaded capture after the incident.
According to a local resident, when the citizens made loud noise, the leopard fled the scene, leaving behind the dead calf. The spot is approximately 500 meters away from the high tension tower line on Zingabai Takli road, with the Gorewada Zoo area situated just half a kilometer away.
In the past, a leopard has been spotted in the neighboring residential areas surrounding the zoo. Additionally, camera traps have captured footage of a leopard on the compound wall of the zoo earlier. Local police officials were promptly alerted, and they, in turn, informed the Forest Department about the situation.
Although the youth asserted having spotted the leopard, there is still uncertainty among locals regarding its entry into and exit from the area.
