The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Nuisance Detection Squad has initiated a crackdown targeting behaviors such as public urination, littering, spitting, and the use of plastic bags thinner than 50 microns. In a recent sweep, the squad took action against 81 individuals in a single day, resulting in fines totaling Rs 50,500.
Various sources of uncleanliness, including handcarts, stalls, tea stalls, ferry operators, and small vegetable vendors, have been identified in the area. Consequently, fines amounting to Rs 9,600 were levied against 24 individuals. Furthermore, four individuals were fined Rs 400 each for littering on the streets, while 12 shopkeepers faced fines of Rs 4,800 each for illegal dumping of garbage on the roads. In a separate incident near the municipal office, a fine of Rs 2,000 was imposed for improper waste disposal.
In related actions, fines of Rs 11,500 were imposed on five individuals for obstructing traffic flow with roadside stalls, and three individuals were fined Rs 11,000 for debris accumulation on roads, footpaths, and open spaces.
Additionally, the Nuisance Detection Squad has collected fines totaling Rs 15,000 from three establishments found violating regulations by using banned plastic bags.
