The Nagpur division is once again under the dengue spotlight as health officials report 206 cases across six districts in East Vidarbha from January 1 to May 21, 2024. The resurgence of dengue this year has been marked by a tragic loss, with one patient succumbing to the illness during treatment, heightening the health department’s concerns about potential outbreaks triggered by unseasonal rains.
According to records from Pune’s health department, the deceased dengue patient was from Wardha district. In the Nagpur division, Chandrapur district leads with 75 dengue cases, followed by Wardha with 45 cases, and Nagpur district with 20 cases. Gondia district has reported 38 cases, and Gadchiroli has 28, bringing the total to 206 dengue cases. These figures have been confirmed by the health office in Nagpur.
An anonymous health department official disclosed ongoing efforts to combat the spread of dengue, including insecticide spraying and awareness campaigns. Despite these efforts, the situation remains challenging.
