A Delhi court found Narmada Bachao Andolan leader Medha Patkar in a defamation case initiated by Lt Governor of Delhi V K Saxena.
Delhi’s Metropolitan Magistrate Raghav Sharma found Patkar guilty of criminal defamation. Patkar may get two years’ of imprisonment or fine or both in the case.
Patkar had filed a case against Saxena for publishing advertisements against her and the Narmada Bachao Andolan in 2000. Saxena was then the Chief Administrator of the National Council for Civil Liberties, a Ahmedabad-based NGO.
Saxena had also filed two cases for making derogatory remarks against him on a television channel and issuing a statement to the press, a new agency has rep[orted.
