WhatsApp is getting ready to empower users with greater control over who has access to their status updates. Owned by Meta, the messaging app will soon unveil a new feature reminiscent of Instagram’s “close friends” list. This addition will allow users to selectively share their updates with a specific group of people.
Currently in the testing phase, this feature is included in the latest WhatsApp beta version for iOS 24.10.10.75, which can be accessed through the TestFlight app.
Users now have the option to choose specific contacts before sharing images and status updates, ensuring that only the selected individuals can view the updates.
This upgrade empowers users with control over their sharing experience, enabling them to customize who has access to their updates.
According to the report, enabling users to mention contacts in their status updates fosters a stronger sense of interaction with specific contacts. This feature ensures that important updates are always brought to the attention of mentioned contacts, since a notification is sent directly to them.
The report further mentions that these mentions will be kept private and won’t appear in the status updates, ensuring they remain discreet and limited to the intended recipients.
