The scorching heat has started in Nagpur and the temperature has gone up to 45 degrees. With summer in full swing, there’s been a spike in fire incidents across the city.
Chaos erupted in Shivajinagar on Monday as a power distribution box went up in flames. Smoke billowed from the transformer and distribution box on the cement road, triggering panic in the area. Maha distribution was promptly alerted as small explosions echoed from the site.
Electricity workers swiftly cut off power and initiated repairs, but not before the distribution box was reduced to ashes. Mahavitran employees rerouted power from other areas to alleviate the outage. However, residents endured hours without electricity in the sweltering heat.
This surge in fire incidents is not uncommon during April and May, the peak of summer. Over 30 to 35 such incidents have been reported, mainly due to the heightened risk of transformer fires in the hot weather. Despite the challenges, electricity workers have been quick to respond, ensuring repairs are carried out promptly and providing relief to affected customers.
