Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VIJUCTA) leader Dr Ashok Gavankar, when contacted said that the new National Education Policy (NEP) will not be applicable to junior colleges from this academic session. It is being introduced this year from the nursery and primary levels.
The NEP will be applicable to junior college students from the academic session 2027-2028.
Talking about NEP he said that basic guidelines have been received, details about the course contents and its applications are not very clear so far. The recent news is that the languages which were compulsory for the junior college students will be removed. Dr Gavankar was disturbed by the news and said that educating students in their mother tongue may be a welcome step.
The students, however, will face difficulties in coping with the challenges at national and international levels. Learning English is necessary as the world is open to students who wish to work on a bigger canvas.
A section of the teachers is against Centralised Admission, as the students opt for reputed schools and colleges and then resort to unhealthy and illegal methods to secure admissions.
The private tuition classes have started entering into contracts with junior colleges, admissions to reputed colleges are not difficult. Tuition classes are not conducted in the colleges. The students attend only private tuition classes. The private tuition classes also arrange for admission of the students to the colleges and schools in their list. The students are required to attend the final practical examinations only in their colleges.
