A massive fire broke out in a flat at Lotus Boulevard society located in Noida’s Sector-100 on Thursday. While investigations are ongoing to determine the precise cause, initial assessments indicate a possible electrical short circuit in an air conditioner.
Reports surfaced suggesting that the fire may have been triggered by severe weather conditions. In response, Pradeep Kumar, Chief Fire Officer of Noida, remarked, “With temperatures nearing 50 degrees Celsius, there’s increased reliance on air conditioners, resulting in a spike in power consumption. “I want to request people not to use their ACs throughout the day.”
Pradeep Kumar stated that the fire department has been receiving reports of air conditioner blasts from various types of buildings, including residential, commercial, and industrial towers, in recent days. He further urged individuals to turn off their ACs before leaving their homes.
Authorities have initiated a comprehensive safety audit to prevent future incidents, highlighting the importance of community awareness and preparedness in high-rise buildings. The recent fire, confined to one flat, resulted in smoke quickly spreading to nearby apartments, prompting a swift evacuation. To ensure residents’ safety, the IGL gas connection was temporarily cut off during the blaze.
Himank, a resident, expressed deep concern for his 11-month-old baby and ailing mother on the sixteenth floor. “I was dropping my wife at work when it happened. The news spread in our society group, and we rushed back to check on them. Knowing they were safe, we left relieved,” he recounted.
Experts urge residents to regularly inspect their air conditioners for potential faults, as AC short circuits or blasts are common fire hazards. Proper installation and regular maintenance of electrical appliances, using surge protectors, and avoiding overloaded power outlets are crucial steps to mitigate risks. The incident underscores the need for vigilance and proactive measures to ensure safety in high-rise living.
