Issues circular to improve exam centre facilities while summer nears its end
Many examination centers under Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) failed to provide basic facilities to the examinees during the scorching heat. Some centers didn’t even have water coolers, and some students complained that they had to ask for water because it wasn’t provided at certain centers.
Lavanya Verma, an Arts student, informed the media that the examination center she attended lacked water and water coolers. She expressed frustration, stating that the scorching heat outside affected all the students. She emphasized that such conditions negatively impacted their ability to focus during exams.
With the intense summer heat ongoing, many colleges failed to provide essential facilities during examinations. A parent suggested that the university should have avoided scheduling exams in the afternoon and should have arranged for basic medical supplies. However, many centers failed to make such provisions.
In response, Vice Chancellor Dr. Subhash Chaudhary promptly instructed Dr. Praful Sable, Director of Examinations and Evaluation, to issue a letter of guidelines for ensuring adequate arrangements at the examination centres due to the heat wave. Dr. Sable subsequently sent this letter to all supervisors of the examination centres.
Dr. Sable instructed that examination halls must have potable cold drinking water and fans, with a cool room at each centre for sunstroke cases. Chief Supervisors should provide first aid medicines, ORS packets, Glucon-D, Gelucil, Digene gel, and a thermometer. In severe cases, parents and a nearby doctor should be contacted immediately, with the university covering the doctor’s fee. Compliance reports are due to the Pro Vice-Chancellor within 48 hours.
Dr. Sable added, Centre heads are also requested to arrange separate seating for pregnant female students in a different room, with a dedicated invigilator assigned to that room.
