In the Nagpur election, except for the Congress candidate, the deposits of all other 14 candidates were forfeited. A total of 26 candidates contested, with National BJP leader Nitin Gadkari defeating Congress’s Vikas Thakre by 1.37 lakh votes.
Several independent candidates struggled to secure even 500 votes, with 12 of them failing to surpass this mark. Among them were Gunvant Somkuvar (471), Deepak Maske (270), Narayan Chaudhary (251), Shridhar Salve (481), Sunil Wankhede (322), Praful Bhange (201), Babita Awasthi (182), Vinayak Avchat (190), Sushil Patil (237), and Santosh Chavan (242). Some candidates did not even receive votes from their own constituencies.
In this election, NOTA (None of the Above) receive 5,474 votes, which is 0.45% of the total votes. This is higher than the 0.39% it got in the 2019 election. NOTA came in fourth place after the top three candidates, showing an increase from the last election.
It was anticipated that BSP’s Yogiraj Lanjewar would secure a significant number of votes, but he too failed to protect his deposit, polling only 19,242 votes. Many independent candidates received very few votes.
According to the Election Commission’s rules, defeated candidates who secure less than 1/6th (average) of the total valid votes forfeited their deposit.
