The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recently made changes to the flight schedule at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport due to planned runway repair and maintenance. However, the work was postponed, leading to disruptions for passengers for three and a half months.
Typically, DGCA adjusts flight schedules nationwide in March and October. This year, the schedule was altered due to the upcoming renovation of Nagpur airport’s runway after a decade.
Initially, aircraft movements were restricted from 10 am to 6 pm. However, delays in the contractor appointment process by the Airports Authority of India prevented the renovation from starting during the summer.
To mitigate the impact, Mihan India Limited (MIL), the airport operator, granted permission for some airlines, including IndiGo, to operate during restricted hours. However, starting from June 15, it is expected that the flight schedule for all companies at Nagpur airport will return to normal.
This news comes as a relief to passengers, who faced inconvenience due to the unexpected changes in flight timings caused by the deferred runway maintenance.
