In a crackdown on illegal practices, Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr. Ravinder Singal has transferred 35 traffic police personnel from all ten zones of the traffic branch after discovering their involvement in extortion from motorists.
A senior police official has confirmed that CP Dr. Singal took action after identifying the roles of these personnel through undisclosed channels. Earlier, two police officers, Pradeep Deshmukh and Nitesh Agashe, from the MIDC Traffic Division, were suspended for allegedly extorting Rs 5,000 from a youth. In connection with the same incident, Police Inspector Narendra Wankhede, who was overseeing the division, has been transferred to the police control room.
Dr. Singal discreetly compiled a list of personnel engaged in such activities. Upon completion, those on the list were reassigned to different positions. Further action may be taken against police personnel at the station level for their involvement in similar activities.
