The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has ramped up its efforts against individuals who litter, discard garbage, spit, and use plastic bags under 50 microns in public areas. The squad registered 58 cases and imposed fines totaling Rs 25,400.
A press release stated that stringent measures are being implemented against citizens involved in littering, spitting, and shopkeepers conducting business on streets and footpaths. The team identified and penalized 11 cases, recovering fines totaling Rs 4,400 from handcarts, stalls, hawkers, and small vegetable vendors.
Fines of Rs 200 were imposed on two individuals for dumping garbage on roads, footpaths, and open spaces. Additionally, Rs 800 in fines were collected from two shopkeepers for engaging in similar practices.
Additionally, fines totaling Rs 6,000 were levied for nine cases related to erecting pavilions, arches, stages, or obstructing traffic roads for personal purposes. Moreover, a fine of Rs 5,000 was imposed in one case for depositing or storing construction debris or disposable waste on public thoroughfares, footpaths, or open spaces. If not removed within 48 hours after a removal notice, additional penalties are incurred.
Apart from the aforementioned violations, the team registered 30 cases involving other nuisances by citizens, resulting in fines totaling Rs 6,000, and three cases involving institutional nuisances, resulting in fines totaling Rs 3,000. The operation was executed under the guidance of Veersen Tambe, the chief of the NDS.
The squad fined Rice Associates at Shriram Apartments in Surendra Nagar under the Laxmi Nagar Zone Rs 5,000 for dumping garbage on the roadside. Similarly, citizens near Railway Station who erected banners and hoardings without proper permissions by Stay Inn Dormitory were fined Rs 5,000 each.
