More details have emerged following the shocking murder of 82-year-old Puroshattam Puttewar, who was fatally struck by a car driven by hired assailants. With the recent arrest of Puttewar’s daughter-in-law, Archana Puttewar, a prominent bureaucrat in Gadchiroli-Chandrapur, authorities have now turned their attention to her elder brother, Prashant Parlewar. Parlewar, who serves as the director of the development and facilitation office for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) in Nagpur, is under suspicion for his alleged involvement in the May 22nd murder of senior Puttewar.
Parlewar, an official affiliated with the Indian Enterprise Development Service (IEDS), previously oversaw operations in the Vidarbha zone and collaborated with various Central ministries. As of the latest update, the crime branch has initiated procedures to arrest him.
Previously, Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for crime, Nimit Goyal, stated that Parlewar was under investigation. Singal emphasized, “We are diligently working to establish connections and gather evidence.” Singal intervened to have the accident case reopened and investigated by the crime branch before a murder case was officially registered.
Parlewar’s sister, Archana, an assistant director of town planning in Gadchiroli, was arrested on June 6 for allegedly masterminding the contract killing. Additionally, the crime branch detained her associate, Payal Nageshwar, on Tuesday. Following previous departmental scrutiny for irregularities, Archana was transferred to magisterial custody after spending three days in police custody.
While the swift conclusion of Archana’s custody by the police raised questions, senior officials asserted that the choice to terminate police remand was a strategic move. This decision was made to enable its resumption through a court order at a later time.
